Pickled fish and hot cross buns is a traditional meal eaten in our home on Good Friday, the day we celebrate the Cruxifiction of Jesus Christ. Fish is traditionally eaten in Catholic homes on a Friday and the vinegar used to pickle the onions for Easter Friday, is a reminder of the vinegar that was given to Jesus when he was thirsty on the Cross.
The pickled fish can be served hot or cold. It keeps in the fridge for several days. Usually the flavour is at it's best one or two days after it has been made.
Pickled fish can be served with white rice. Traditional it is served with Hot cross buns. The light spicyness and of the flaky white fish and the crunchy sweet and sour onion pickle compliments the Spicy sweet hot cross buns with raisins.
